Volume up: Three local sports podcasts you can tune into

We love watching Philippine sports grow. And part of that growth has been the attention that our local teams and athletes are now getting from their fans.

Although sports podcasts have been around for a while, they just recently started to become more popular in the Philippines recently. In fact, many sports enthusiasts have started their own shows out of their sheer passion for sports.

So for your next workout, errand run, or long drive, here are three sports podcasts and shows you can tune into.

The DVD Show

One of the hidden gems we found is The DVD Show. This podcast tackles anything within the world of sports and features many big-name athletes.

From UAAP champions like Bea de Leon and Kib Montalbo to coaches like Derrick Pumaren and Bo Perasol, you can binge-watch interview after interview on The DVD Show.

But what makes this particular podcast special is its host: Diego Vergel de Dios. He is the former sports editor for DLSU’s publication, The LaSallian, and he has turned his passion for sports into this platform.

Through his interviews, he gives his listeners what they want: the inside scoop from coaches, athletes, and sports personalities first-hand.

Of his many episodes with famous athletes, our favorite one is with Jinno Rufino and Aaron Black where they debate about Formula 1, because who doesn’t love hearing athletes talk about the other sports they’re fans of?

You can listen to or watch all the latest episodes of The DVD Show on Spotify or YouTube!

The Gamesilog Show

For the gamers and aspiring esports athletes out there, make sure to add The Gamesilog Show to your library on Spotify.

Hosted by Jhazterine Tayag and Daddy Player One, this podcast is a collection of conversations about video games. They talk about news updates in the industry, game reviews, and even throwbacks to the classic games that shaped us.

They even do interviews with gamers and other personalities in the industry. This podcast is a one-stop shop for many talks about the gaming world (and gamers know just how big that can be).

One of their most interesting episodes is number 90 where they talk about Overyhyped Games. It’s engaging getting to hear the opinions of others and comparing them to your own.

So while you load up the next game you play on your own, put an episode on to keep you company. You can listen to their podcast on Spotify.

Go Hard Girls

Go Hard Girls is another gem that deserves more attention. Unlike all the other sports podcasts we have, this one is specifically dedicated to highlighting the stories of Filipina athletes.

This podcast is hosted by the highly acclaimed sports reporter and writer, Ceej Tantengco. A long-time champion for women in and out of sports, the stories she brings to the stage on her platform highlight her advocacy.

Go Hard Girls features the inspiring stories of Filipina athletes like Hidilyn Diaz, the Gilas Pilipinas, and the Philippine Women’s National Football team.

There is a lot to learn and love about this podcast, and you can add their episodes to your Spotify library.

There are a lot of sports podcasts to choose from out there, but we think these three are some gems worth your time. Let us know what you think and share your favorite sports podcasts too!
