Jake Gyllenhaal films scenes for the Road House remake

3 Things We Know About Jake Gyllenhaal’s Road House Remake

UFC fans were stunned to see Hollywood actor Jake Gyllenhaal in the ring at UFC 285 to film for his newest movie: a Road House remake.

In case you haven’t seen the viral photos and videos online yet, last weekend, at UFC 285 held in T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, Hollywood actor Jake Gyllenhaal made a surprise appearance.

And not as a fan — as a fighter.

But he wasn’t there to actually fight in the UFC. Gyllenhall was there, along with fellow actors, to film a scene for his new upcoming movie: Road House.

The film is a loose remake of the original of the same title that came out in 1989. And here’s what we know about the remake so far:

1. Why did they film at UFC 285?

The Road House remake caught a lot of attention recently after Jake Gyllenhaal filmed scenes for the movie at last weekend’s UFC 285.

At the weigh-in of UFC 285, the Hollywood actor showed up and stepped onto the scales, shouting at the crowd. If we didn’t know any better, we would have figured that Gyllenhaal had switched careers.

And for anyone who thought the same, unfortunately, he hasn’t become a UFC fighter. Jake Gyllenhaal is starring in a remake of Road House, though the plot of this new version differs from that of the original.

In the 2023 version, Road House centers around the life of a former UFC fighter who finds himself working at a roadhouse, a place that typically serves passing travelers. Though the team behind the film is still yet to release more details on the plot, we can now easily understand why Gyllenhaal was at UFC 285 to film in the first place.

And already, we know that the movie will have an authentic feel to it.

Anyone else excited to see Jake Gyllenhaal transform from the boxer he played in Southpaw to an ex-UFC fighter in Road House?

2. Who else is starring in it?

Though the film is still in production, the cast has been revealed, and UFC fans are definitely going to be excited about this one.

Alongside Gyllenhaal, Conor McGregor himself will also be starring in the Road House remake, although he wasn’t included in the scene filmed at UFC 285.

However, another former UFC fighter was there: Jay Hieron.

Hieron, now a Hollywood actor and stuntman, was a former mixed martial artist who competed in the UFC. And for this film, he found himself in his element: back in a UFC ring.

At UFC 285 last weekend, fans were treated to see a sneak peek of the film, as Hieron and Gyllenhaal stepped into the octagon in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas to perform a choreographed fight scene.

Apart from these huge names, Billy Magnussen and Daniela Melchior will also be starring in the film.

The remake is also being directed by Doug Liman, who also directed famous action films, The Bourne Identity, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and Edge of Tomorrow.

3. Where is it coming out?

We have Amazon Studios to thank for the Road House remake, as they are the team putting the entire film together. And so far, we’re loving how it’s going — with all the publicity, safe to say that expectations might be high for this one.

But, given that we witnessed some of the team’s filming just last weekend, we know that the movie is still in its production phase. However, fans are speculating that the film will drop later this year.

But what we do know is that it will be released on Prime Video.
